Maruya (Banana Fritters)

Maruya has many names such as kumbo, pinaypay, sinapot etc. But only one thing is for sure, it is one delicious and healthy snack you can prepare at home. Since it’s made of banana, you know that you can prepare it for your family safe and healthy.

Here’s how to cook Maruya (Banana Fritters):

1 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
1 tbsp. Baking Powder
1/2 Brown Sugar
a pinch Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 Egg
1/2 cup Milk
5 Bananas (saba) (sliced thinly)

1. In a bowl, combine in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla, egg and milk. Whisk until smooth.

2. Heat some oil in a pan.

3. Dip and soak the sliced bananas in the mixture to coat.

4. Using a spoon, fry them, 3 slices at a time. Then scoop some mixture and pour them on top for a final coat.

5. Sprinkle some sugar on both sides before serving.

Ready and Serve!

Note from Delish:

Maruya, or we commonly call in kumbo in Iloilo is one of my favorite snack. You can find many kumbo vendors everywhere. Now is the time to try making them at home. I assure you, it’s so easy and cheap to prepare.
